![]() If you wish, you can now uninstall the GOG installation of Quake 2, the "Yamagi Quake II" folder is all you need to play the game. Otherwise, some files might interfere with the version of the game. Now, you should have a fully working version of Quake 2 and its addons! The point of all the copying around instead of just using the GOG installation folder is to have a "clean" version of the game with only the files you need. Download Quake 2 from GOG.com and install it to " C:\GOG Games\Quake II"Ģ. Hey there, it's been a while since I've played Quake 2, so I just downloaded it and I'll try to make the installation instructions a bit easier to follow :) I'm using standard folder names, of course you can name the folders any way you like. I feel like the instructions are too vague, not to mention I have no idea how I'm supposed to access the source port afterwards (ZDoom and Chocolate Doom at least have handy icons to navigate to). I've tried unzipping the file into the Quake II folder, but the way the instructions are worded wants me to copy the files from Quake II into the baseq2 folder? But the files are already there? And if they aren't the files where do I find the Quake II files? The large list of mods that come with the game really don't help matters either since I'm not sure where to look for. The instructions are extremely confusing. At your suggestion I downloaded Yamagi but I can't seem to figure out the installation process. In the case of Quake 2, Yamagi Quake 2, despite its unusual name, does exactly the latter and should let you run the game on Windows 10 with music without much hassle. ![]() ![]() Both games have source ports available that either enhance the game in any way, as well ones that simply try to replicate the original version as best as possible while offering much higher compatibility with modern systems. It's always quickly thrown out there whenever someone experiences problems with Quake 1 and 2, but it's for good reason. Also, load times between levels are increased, text and HUD elements are forcibly upscaled and look rather ugly, and the brightness setting now affects the skybox.Syrion: I agree with dr.schliemann, using a source port is your best bet. This mod also has a few shortcomings widescreen support is essentially broken as objects at the left and right side of the screen are culled out, so keeping to 4:3 resolutions is recommended. It also includes several other changes, like an implementation of the water screen distortion effect from the software renderer, an option to toggle texture filtering off (via setting the "8-bit texture" option to "on"), and desktop resolution support (via selecting sub-640x480 resolutions). The ingame method uses a simple linear filter an alternative exists in the form of the mod "Quake II Facelift", released in 2007, which supports Lanczos upsampling for even further improved texture quality. 1 ALSA support can be added by compiling the source code from Icculus version. OSS is used in official native Linux version. 10.9 Play the expansions with KMQuake II.10.7 "No Input arguments" when running the launcher (GOG.com version).10.6 Game does not launch (Intel HD Graphics).10.4 Window border visible in fullscreen mode (Software mode).10.3 Windows Vista and 7 colours issue (Software mode).10.1 Saves not working in 'The Reckoning' and 'Ground Zero' (GOG.com version).
